Title: Phaze in Verse
Blurb: Edited by Kally Jo Surbeck, featuring the authors of Phaze. Poetry has long been a short form method to story telling. Morals, epic tales, even desperate pleas for understanding have been recorded through the ages in verse. And yet, somewhere along the line of our technologically advancing society, it seems those small intimate pleasures are growing lost. Poetry is love, life, and feeling breathed into words. Our shared experiences, emotions, dreams?. Today, we are pleased to present to you a fine collection of poetry. This is not just iambic pentameter or rhymed. It is not only free verse or measured. This is a comprehensive collection of a wide variety of tastes, styles, and passions. Just like our readers. There is a little bit of something for everyone.

Author: Yeva Wiest
Title: Phaze Fantasies: Volume III
Blurb: Six Phaze favorites deliver stories of homoerotic passion and romance.

Behind the Beard by Yeva Wiest : Madly in lust, handsome young counselor Byron Jones hides his secret self. The object of his attraction: Lord Richard Kincade, the Queen’s most sought after barrister. With the help of two conniving old codgers, a mischievous miss, and some six-legged buggers, Byron “wigs out” to capture the heart of Lord Kincade.

This story proves the belle of the ball just might be a beau, but everything depends on who is really hiding behind the beard.

Author: Nicole Gestalt
Title: Summer of Fire
Blurb: The Summer of Fire, as the media calls it, brings steamy weather and the threat of an arsonist. Officer Helen is charged with ending the madness, yet her passion for a widowed firefighter continues to flame.

Author: Christine London
Title: Sunninghill Snow
Blurb: In charge of obtaining celebrity bookings and future programming for BBC 3’s Good Morning Show, Bryce is living a lightening-paced life as the man to know in morning TV and one of London’s most eligible bachelors. Having long been relegated to the occasional wistful smile or cringe of regret, Kay Macara was the last person he’d expected to run into at his best mate’s country cottage. One snowbound weekend, a recalcitrant cat, a wild sled adventure and time stranded together are a recipe for war…or passion. The problem is that neither one can seem to see what’s right in front of them: they never stopped loving each other.

Author: Mychael Black
Title: Dark Needs
Blurb: Two bestselling novellas by two Phaze favorites, together in one volume!

The Power of Two: As a vampire Master, Dominic has been eyeing his old friend, Griffith for quite a while. But being a Master in his own right, Grif resisted the notion of Dominic controlling him in any way. With startling skill, Dominic sets out to change that refusal. He has his own deep interest in him, born of watching Grif’s submission at the hand of another Master. Even though Dominic can’t help but toy with his old friend, in truth, he wants him only as an equal. But how to convince Grif without letting his guard down is Dominic’s biggest issue.

Aware of some of that interest but not the reason for it, Grif has his own secret. His trust had been violated by his own vampire Master, and since that night, he’s refused to let another dominate him. And he’d swore to himself that no one ever would.

Dominion: Still dealing with the aftershocks of his ordeal at Tristan’s hands, Griffith St. James is fighting the urge to withdraw completely. He feels guilty for what happened, less than a man. The nightmares of his torture at his former master’s hands are worse than ever. Dominic Marcellus struggles to draw Grif back into their life before Tristan, but fate has other plans.

Finding himself back in the clutches of his abusive former master, Grif is terrified and can only pray Dominic comes for him in time.

How Romantic is That?

We’re pretty stoked about this song by Lori McKenna, How Romantic is That?. Ms McKenna is an awesome romantic storyteller, she does it with music. Here’s a little bit about her:

Lori McKenna is a mother of five from Stoughton, Mass. (pop. 27,000), about 20 miles outside Boston. There, she lives quietly—well, as quietly as a house with five children can get—with her husband of 18 years, Gene, a plumber for the local gas company. For years she drove her kids to school in a 1999 Ford Windstar minivan with 150,000 miles on it. It is fitting Lori entitled her Warner Brothers debut album Unglamorous.

Lori McKenna is also an acclaimed singer-songwriter who was thrust into the limelight last year when superstar Faith Hill included three of McKenna’s songs on her Number One album Fireflies, including Hill’s poignant single “Stealing Kisses.” Hill (herself a wife and mother of three) heard in McKenna’s work what a steadily growing audience has been hearing since her 1998 debut, Paper Wings & Halo: an intimate understanding and honest expression of the realities of domestic life.

While Lori has several fine songs on her latest album Unglamourous, How Romantic is That? is available only as a video from Don Was’ Channel and YouTube. We’ve made it easy for you to check it out here at Realms of Love.

Claire Thompson’s Masked Submission was just released at Ellora’s Cave.

When Dylan Reese first saw the sexy masked Dom at the club he felt the connection between them ignite in a flame he knew he could never quench. In a blindingly intense exchange of sensual power Dylan gave his body and his heart to a man hidden behind a mask-a man he could never truly know.

Jack Marchand was smitten the moment he laid eyes on the handsome green-eyed PhD candidate. As their friendship blossomed, so did their trust-freeing Dylan to confess to Jack his submissive orientation, while Jack admitted his naturally dominant impulses. Jack found himself falling in love with a man whose heart was ensnared by a fantasy. Yet Dylan was unable to break free of the dark erotic control of his masked lover, even if it meant destroying the fledgling love he felt for Jack. Jack had his own secrets, secrets that once revealed could destroy his chance of love with the one man who had already stolen his heart.

Lucynda Storey has released The Collector 7: This Time Forever over at Loose-Id:

When terminally ill Skylar Creighton tries to aid an injured homeless man who’s been stabbed, his attacker follows him into her bookstore demanding a green crystal. When the victim shoves a pale green gem into her hands, the mysterious crystal sends her hurtling into the cabin of the Rand Edward Jamison’s Red Sky, a pirate ship. The captain—she knows and loves from the yellowed pages of his own journals.

When Rand hears a noise in his cabin, his senses go on full alert. Finding an interloper, he’s sure his enemy, Owain Cutler, has found an assassin. What Rand doesn’t expect to find is his deceased wife Emma’s reincarnation. When this stranger unleashes her tongue with her sarcastic retorts he’s confused. Is she or isn’t she Emma? And what is all this nonsense about traveling through time from the future?

Skylar’s been fantasizing about Rand for years, and Rand’s convinced she’s his dead wife returned to him. Between her new love giving her a determination to live and his old one giving him the determination to save her life, she’s shortly begging he ravage her like the pirate that he is. But then Cutler steals the sistrum, and he’s after Emma - or is it Skylar? He enlists the aid of a Hudu woman to send her own to her own time, because he will not lose her again.

Now all Rand has to do is find a way to get to Skylar and keep Cutler from killing her in a future three hundred years away.

Author Sonja Foust Tackles Racial Issues in Short Romantic Fantasy ‘Love In Shadow’

Not just a short read that will leave you with a warm feeling; “Love In Shadow” tackles the larger issue of prejudice within its sweet romantic plot. Sonja Foust, who resides in Durham, North Carolina—home of the now infamous Duke Lacrosse case—steps away from the real world to illuminate prejudice in a less complicated fantasy world.

The Duke Lacrosse case pitted three white Duke Lacrosse players against a black exotic dancer from neighboring historically black NC Central University. “The fantasy setting gives a little bit of distance from the actual situations and lets you think about the issues themselves without all the baggage from the specifics. It’s a great vehicle for expanding your universe to include ideas you might not have thought of if they hadn’t been presented in such a clean, unattached way,” says Foust.

Sonja Foust, a UNC Chapel Hill alumna with a degree in English, has been an aspiring author for almost three years. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA) as well as the Heart of Carolina Romance Writers local Raleigh chapter of RWA. “Love In Shadow” is Foust’s first published work.

This is an amazing story of love, life, losses, and gains that all of us face in our lives. Sometimes we do not make wise choices and have to live with the consequences. Jilted will touch every emotion you have. I found myself needing the tissues more than once. This is a poignant story of two women, each strong in her own way, but vulnerable at the same time. Rich secondary characters round out this story beautifully. This is wonderful story from Ms.Edmondson.

Here’s that review:

Daelyn is the only protector his sister has. In a futuristic time, the world in which Daelyn lives is controlled by regulators who patrol the streets with a heavy hand. Oftentimes, they are sadistic, hateful men who make everyone they come in contact with bow down to their wishes. One such regulator, McBane, has made Daelyn his own personal property and Daelyn has the scars, both physical and emotional, to prove it. When a new group of regulators enters his diner, Dae foresees additional cruelty just waiting around the corner. Only, that doesn’t happen. Coby, the leader of this band of regulators, doesn’t have the look of brutality; he has the look of forever.

Daelyn’s world and existence almost broke my heart. Knowing nothing but cruelty since the death of his father, Dae was so afraid to reach for what Coby offered. Like Dae, though I resigned myself to believing that Coby had to possess some of the same malicious qualities of the other regulators, I still hoped he would be different and would somehow treasure the resilient man that was Daelyn. I was not disappointed. Coby’s patience, kindness, and protection towards Dae was just enlighteningly beautiful.

SCARRED is a homoerotic love story, and while I adore reading this genre, some may not. I can honestly say, however, that the love between Coby and Daelyn is poignant and steamy, yet almost surprisingly innocent. It was a joy to watch Daelyn flourish under Coby’s unexpected care. I happily recommend this story to those who enjoy homoerotic love. J. M. Snyder has a new fan!

Romantic Observer offers free posting and reading of romance excerpts, promotion and romance reviews.

Here’s a snip of the excerpt of Night Nurse (click the link above to read more):

Liza stood in the shadow of a doorway and watched the nurses’ station. She wasn’t familiar with this wing of the hospital and didn’t want anyone asking questions about what she was doing here. It was none of their business that she’d come to visit a special patient.

When she heard the ever so rich Mr. John Evans was admitted for observation, she decided to make his hospital stay a memorable one. The night shift served her purposes perfectly. For once, Tucker’s absence benefited her as she wouldn’t have to explain getting home so late.

Good. The night nurse updating computer input from the charts left the desk to answer a patient call button. Hope it’s not Mr. Evans.

Isabella Snow’s The Claiming of Kitten is out at Loose-Id. I think we’re gonna hear a lot from this lady. She’ll be chatting at Realms of Love at 9 PM EST December 11, 2006.

I found some interesting stuff prowling around her web site and blog.

Having searched far and wide for a book (or man) that could leave her breathless, she penned her first novel out of frustration. Yes, that kind of frustration

Got a favorite sex position?
Sure you do. This topic was up for discussion with a few of my friends earlier this evening (all male). They asked me what I preferred. I answered without hesitation.
Kneeling, man behind me.

… this novel is a Capture/Forced Seduction story. Which automatically classes it as BDSM.
However!
Please realize that while there are very slight bondage elements - the occasional tied wrist, gag, etc - there are no whips, floggers, or anything else that causes real pain in this book.

What she doesn’t tell you is the man reads her books and knows what she desires. Kinda sexy, huh?

You can buy The Claiming if Kitten here. Christine M. Griffin did a fantastically sexy cover.

Here’s an excerpt:

As she reached the last step, her left heel snagged in a crevice, sending her tumbling to the street below. Colliding with the unforgiving concrete, she felt the wind go out of her lungs. Gulping for air, she pulled herself up to a kneeling position. Thankfully, there hadn’t been any traffic in the street before her fall. She shuddered to think what might’ve happened if there had been. Pressing a small hand to her forehead, she gathered her strength and tried to stand, but collapsed a few seconds later.

Pull yourself together, she told herself. And stand up!

Inhaling deeply, she aimed for the railing attached to the large stone wall beside her. Delicate fingers had almost succeeded, when a large hand cut through the darkness and clasped hers tightly. In an instant, powerful arms drew her up and against the very solid chest of a complete stranger. She gasped, effectively stunned by his presence.

Sweet Jesus… they still make men like this?! Widening eyes took in his 6′3 frame and chiseled features.

She’d stared just a moment too long and found herself blushing at the amused glint in his eyes. He was obviously enjoying the blatant appreciation. Alexandra cleared her throat nervously and did her best to present a less interested front.

“Nasty spill you took,” he said softly. “How’s your head?”

Spinning, thank you, Alexandra sighed dreamily to herself. “It’s nothing…” She tried to suppress the butterflies in her stomach.

His hand brushed the hair at her temple aside to examine her, his eyes scanning her for any injury. A handsome face, matched by a very male physique, this man would make any healthy female swoon. This was the kind of stranger who inspired novels like the one she was presently reading.

Abducting Angel was easily the best capture fantasy she’d ever read. So much so, she’d spent three days searching all of Manhattan for a replacement when hers had gone missing. She’d had it with her the day she’d interviewed for her current employer - and that was the last time she could recall seeing it. Thankfully, it hadn’t found its way into the wrong hands. A respectable company would never have hired a woman toting that kind of filth around with her!

Especially not one who pined for such a thing.

She grinned wickedly as one of the better scenes flashed through her mind’s eye. Girl loses her way in a dark and dingy alley, gorgeous man manifests at the most opportune time…

Wonder if he’s got any rope or blindfolds with him, Alexandra giggled to herself.

She was staring again.

“Can you speak, Kitten?” he murmured against the soft tendrils framing her face.

The unusual tone in his voice jolted her back to her senses. Her stomach fluttered as his lips touched her hair, followed by an acute surge of panic when his fingers trailed across her cheek. A steamy encounter with such a man might be everything she’d hoped for, but this was a little fast paced for real life! She placed her hands against his powerful frame and shoved with all of her might.

“Who do you think you are, talking to me this way?” She glared at him.

The stranger let her back away but did not release her. He watched in silence, a frown pulling at the corners of his mouth.

“I thought I was being rather friendly.” He searched her face.

“I have plenty of friends already.” She stepped backward, the words escaping her lips before she could stop herself.

He pushed his shoulders back and tilted his head to the side. Blue eyes narrowed slightly and he appeared to be looking straight through her. His face took on an unusual expression she couldn’t quite identify. It was rather unnerving, whatever it was.

“Surely one more wouldn’t hurt?” he offered with agrin.

“No, thank you.” The hair on the back of her neck was standing on end.

His jaw tightened and he gave her a piercing look. He appeared to be struggling with himself as he calculated his next move. Attempting to show little or no fear, she snorted loudly and turned on her heel to leave. She’d gone about ten paces when he called out from behind her.

“I don’t think you fully appreciate the situation.” His footsteps moved closer. “We can do this the easy way, or we can do it the hard way. But we will do it my way. Is that understood?”

She froze, the flush draining away from her cheeks almost as quickly as he’d put it there.

Oh my God… did he just quote… She held her breath as trembling fingers clutched her purse. Men don’t read such things… do they??

Her mind was already reeling as he took hold of her arms and spun her around. Cornering her against the nearest building, he stretched a handkerchief across her mouth. That last sentence had left her in a daze, the fog of his words still consuming her. The gag wasn’t even necessary – she couldn’t have screamed if she’d wanted to. At this point, her primary concern was waking herself up. This was certainly a nightmare, concocted by a shamefully deviant subconscious.

But, if I’m dreaming, why are my panties so –

Skilled hands interrupted her thoughts as silk ropes cinched her wrists together. Muscular arms closed around her waist, lifting her from the ground and draping her across his shoulder. The bindings weren’t painful, but certainly snug enough to quash any doubts as to her state of consciousness. Reality was beginning to sink in and Alexandra could feel the panic coming on.

“You have nothing to fear, Kitten.” He seemed to have read her mind.

I just read the author bio for romance author Shiela Stewart . It brought tears to my eyes. I’ve met some fine women hanging around with romance writers and most have worked long and hard to get published. Read on for Shiela’s story.

I dabbled for the next few years, writing poetry for my hubby and my children, while the stories piled up in my mind. I wanted to write about love, about romance, but felt it might be too risqué. I had no idea there was even such a thing as a Romance writer. Then I picked up a Nora Roberts books and a lock inside of me was released.

I wrote for years, free hand, filling binders of my work. There were so many stories fighting their way free inside my mind. At times, I couldn’t keep up and wrote two to three novels at once. But I never thought I was good enough.

Six years ago, my hubby, the pushy man he is, told me it was time I started looking into publishers. I politely told him, “What, are you F%&^% nuts, I am not that good.” So he picked up the phone and called a local Publishing company for me. Within a week I had a booklet with Romance Authors and Publishers. I began researching, and felt overwhelmed. I continued to write…

Having dropped out of school in grade nine to help my ailing parents, I was afraid if Publishers found out I was uneducated, they would laugh me off the face of the earth. I continued to write while raising my three children, being a dutiful wife, sister, daughter and yearned to have my work out there for others to read. My hubby pushed me, and I continued. To date, I have well over seventy completed manuscripts, most in rough draft, but the ones I think are good enough I have edited and placed on my website.

More rejections came in, and I began to doubt myself, once again. I was on the verge of tossing in the towel when I stumbled across a writing contest on line. Most of me went, “Get real, you’ll never win”, while a small part of me said, “But maybe…”. So I sent in Awaken the Demon, and became one of four finalists. That alone was a major accomplishment for me. I lost, but I had gotten farther than I ever had before. And I plugged on, sending in more of my stories to the editor. To my utter shock, she was interested in one of my books.

Guys, you never know what your woman can accomplish if you give them encouragement and a little push every once in a while.

Be sure to check out Shiela Stewart’s web site and watch for her book Kidnapped, from Linden Bay.

Here’s the blurb:

For Rose Light the simple act of placing a flower upon her mother’s grave will lead to a most fortuitous event. Life looks dismal and Rose has no prospects, not until she meets John Bennett.

When they met, she chastised him, was down right rude. So why has he tracked her down to the poverty-stricken area of Cheapside ? Why does this man think he has found just the right woman and believes all she needs is the right stimulation to make her bloom?

Take one wicked stepmother and two older, conniving sisters, and you may think you’ve heard this tale before. You haven’t — not this way. Let Rose Light tell you her story.
